Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Super Zoom Camera TZ8 - 25mm Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom Lens and 16x Intelligent Zoom Camera. The 12.1-megapixel DMC-TZ8 features a 25mm wide-angle 12x optical zoom f/3.3-4.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm camera equivalent: 25-300mm) in a compact body. The 25mm wide-angle lens has about twice the shooting area of the standard 35mm lens. The powerful 12x zoom can also be used in motion picture recording. In 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 23.4x by using the center part of the CCD.

5 out of 5 stars Short & Quick   May 17, 2010

I'm an awful photographer, however I've just return from a trip to China and so many people have commented on how professional my photos look!

This camera does all the hard work! To keep it short & quick:

- Pocket size
- Simple to use
- Great design/layout/screen size
- Loads of extra features
- Fantastic battery life - I only charged it twice over 4 weeks!
- Simple to move photos on PC

The only thing I regret is not buying it from Amazon as I paid slightly more. I also personally prefer the black (Panasonic Lumix TZ8 Digital Camera (12.1MP, 12x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD - Black) as I think it has a slightly more professional look.

Not had a chance to fully use all the features on this camera yet but so far am loving it. The zoom is great and picture quality looks good. Very happy! A great choice!

5 out of 5 stars So far,so good.   August 26, 2010

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4200 and wanted a compact with more pixels, more zoom, and a better video performance. After much searching and reading countless reviews like this I got confused. For every three or four 5 star reviews for a camera you find one that tells you that it is the most hopeless piece of junk ever made! In the end I went with the majority and decided on the TZ8.The Amazon price and delivery were first class and so far the camera does everything it should. The zoom and video quality are amazing to me and as an intelligent auto user, rather than an expert I have found no trouble in using the camera. There is no paper handbook which is a bit of a disappointment, but it is all on the CD.
The camera is made in Japan, rather than somewhere else, and looks to be very strongly put together.I use it with the Nikon Picture Project and Microsoft Picture It softwear on my computer and all works well.So far I have not tried to use the editing suite that comes with the camera from Panasonic. With regard to battery life and all the issues that some reviewers fume about we are just off on holiday to do some safari and I will know more then. But as I say,so far,so good, and in many respects better than I expected. No complaints yet.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera   August 24, 2010

Bought to replace a Canon Ixus 100 that was not as good as an older one, the TZ8 is fantastic. Great lens, powerful flash, and battery that lasts. Lots of features, but just used as a point and shoot at the moment. Good for macro shots. Bought a Lowepro Apex 30 bag to carry it in from a local shop, as the reviews for other bags were a bit misleading. Took the camera to try out several bags. The Lowepro has plenty of room for spare cards and a battery.

4 out of 5 stars Very happy... but!   August 23, 2010

I was looking for a camera that was compact but would produce high def images boardering on SLR quality. I saw the Panasonic TZ6 in action through a friend and was very impressed so went for this one. Took it to Egypt with me to give it a proper test and I couldn't have been happier. The camera is really easy to use and the Intelligent Exposure technology means you can usually take the perfect photo without fiddling with the scene settings. My only complaint would be with taking low light photos. It struggles to take decent pictures in low light without using the flash, and that of course results in that odd lighting effect where everything within 4 feet of the camera is too bright and everything 8 feet away is too dark. You can force flash off but then the camera struggles to focus. Not the end of the world and you can still get a half decent image. I'd still recommend.
